WA: New driver clocked speeding outside her own school
PERTH, Feb 17 AAP - A Perth teenager who received her driving licence on Tuesday morning
was caught speeding outside her school just hours later.
Police said the 17-year-old girl was recorded driving almost 20kph over the limit outside
her own school in Russell Street, Morley, in Perth's northern suburbs.
Traffic police in Western Australia have caught hundreds of motorists during their
recent crackdown on drivers breaking the 40 kilometre an hour speed zone outside primary
and secondary schools.
In the latest breach, the girl was stopped by police conducting radar checks outside
the school, when they recorded her Toyota Corolla travelling at 58kph in the 40kph zone.
Police said the girl told them she had just obtained her licence that morning and was
also a student of the school.
She was fined $100 and lost one demerit point for speeding.
