Fed: Backers nominate Hanson for Australian of the Year

Jailed former One Nation leader PAULINE HANSON could be Australian of the Year if hersupporters get their way.

The Australia Day Council says it has received more than 100 nominations for HANSON,who is eligible for nomination even if she is in prison.

Nominations for Australian of the Year close at the end of the month with cancer-strickenpop singer DELTA GOODRUM and Crocodile Hunter STEVE IRWIN among the celebrity nominees.

One Nation president ROD EVANS says the nomination proposal is supported but not officiallysanctioned by the party.

HANSON, aged 49, and One Nation co-founder DAVID ETTRIDGE, aged 58, were jailed forthree years last Wednesday after being convicted of fraudulently registering One Nationin Queensland on December the 4th, 1997.
