'FOREVER WILD' SOUGHT FOR STITT ROAD MINING SITE.(Local)

Neighbors of a gravel firm mining land on Stitt Road suggested at a zoning meeting Wednesday night that once the company completes its operations, the property be designated forever wild.

Officials of William H. Larned & Sons Inc., which owns about 100 acres along Stitt Road and Route 158, appeared Wednesday before the Town Zoning Board of Appeals to seek an extension of its soil mining permit at the meeting.

The board postponed its decision until July 6.

The company has been mining the property since 1969 and has owned the land since 1977. The property, however, has been the site of a mining operation for …
